Australia could have enough shale gas resources to double its gas resource base and maintain current production rates for 184 years, according to a government report published on Monday. Australia has already identified around 390 Tcf of gas resources excluding shale, the report found, with the Department of Resources saying that the industry was being transformed by technology and markets, with new gas resources coming into play. Australia is expected to surpass Qatar as the world's top LNG exporter by the end of the decade, with around $170 billion worth of projects under construction.
