Germany’s Wintershall announced on Monday it had secured a permit for a 500 acre site in Mendoza province, Argentina, where it will explore for shale oil and gas. The company said its Argentinian subsidiary had been awarded the exploration permit for the Ranquil Norte area, with Wintershall holding a 50% operating interest. Total is a partner in the project, and holds the remaining 50%.
