The UK government has rejected suggestions that its new Electricity Market Reform proposals are not cost-effective, saying that criticism from industry bodies suggest the government has "got it right". Officially launching the long-awaited draft Energy Bill on Tuesday, which includes measures for UK Electricity Market Reform (EMR), secretary of state for energy and climate change Edward Davey told journalists that industry criticism – directed partly at the government’s proposed feed-in tariff with Contracts for Difference (CfD) – showed the government was looking out for the consumer and not vested business interests.
