Nigeria’s freshly drafted Petroleum Industry bill, which is to be finalised shortly, states that oil firms must stop flaring gas by the end of2012, with fines imposed for non-compliance. Nigeria, which is the world’s second biggest burner of associated gas, flared approximately 30 Bcm of gas in January alone, according to official figures.
