Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR – a key shareholder in the BP-operated Shah Deniz project in the Caspian Sea – still sees potential for the implementation of the full 31 Bcm/year “base case” Nabucco pipeline. Speaking to Austrian paper Die Presse on Tuesday, SOCAR deputy head Elshad Nassirov said he disagreed with BP’s public statements about only considering a slimmed-down “Nabucco West” concept, among other contenders, to transport Shah Deniz II gas to Europe.
