The Panama Canal is not an essential route to enable the US to export LNG to Asian markets, Guy Broggi, Senior LNG Advisor at Total told delegates at Informa’s LNG Global Congress in London on Wednesday. The Canal is currently undergoing a $5.25 billion expansion that will double the capacity and change global shipping patterns by allowing it to accommodate larger LNG vessels, but Broggi said that “if it did not exist LNG exports from the US will still go ahead”, as vessels will be able to access Asian markets via Singapore.
