Poland is forging ahead with issuing new shale gas exploration licences, with “several tens of applications” awaiting approval by the country’s Ministry of the Environment, according to a government statement on Friday. Environmental undersecretary Piotr Woźniak said 23 boreholes had been drilled in Poland to date, with six still in progress, while 41 new boreholes are due to start before the end of 2012.
