A gas rig explosion on Wednesday at a Colorado well operated by Canadian energy company Encana has killed one worker and injured three. The “high pressure gas release” is believed to have been caused by equipment failure following hydraulic fracturing (fracking), and is currently under investigation by Encana. Fracking in the US is under scrutiny over fears that it could damage the environment – however, the company told local media that this was “not a fracking accident”.
