TEPCO and Chubu Electric are in final negotiations to form the world’s largest LNG procurement alliance harnessing buying power of up to 40 mtpa. The Japanese companies, which have long complained about the so-called “Asian premium” on the price of LNG, said they hope to create “a strong competitive position in international energy markets” and “ensure the stable supply of energy on an internationally competitive basis”.
