The share of natural gas in China’s energy mix has been increasing, as Beijing seeks to reduce the nation’s heavy reliance on coal and ease air pollution levels. Due however to limited reserves of domestic conventional natural gas, it has instead turned to imports of LNG and piped gas to reach that goal.
