The prospects of more Australian LNG exports after the projects under construction are completed were not looking good before the oil price collapse. Now none of the possible expansions and green-field projects are going to happen unless and until the oil price recovers. Alongside this, the potential for a second wave of Australian developments will hinge on the outcome of an often-angry domestic political debate over LNG exports. Gas Strategies considers some of the internal pressures in Australia over LNG exports versus domestic gas supply, and the outlook for its LNG export projects.
