Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology was dealt a blow in November when the UK cancelled its GBP 1 billion CCS competition – the only major government-funded programme for power sector CCS left anywhere in the world. The competition’s demise may well signal the end for Shell’s CCS project at Peterhead, which was aiming to be the first gas-fired power plant to showcase the technology.
