The world’s largest LNG exporter Qatar is likely to run a fiscal deficit in 2016 for the first time in fifteen years, according to an outlook by the country’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics released on Sunday.
According to the most recent estimates, the ministry expects a sharp drop in Qatar’s fiscal budget from a surplus of 5.3% of GDP in 2015 to deficits of roughly 8% in 2016 and 2017 and 4% in 2018.
