Mexican reforms are prompting “profound change” in the country’s energy sector and could help drive up annual gas demand by over 40% by 2040, the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported this week in a special Mexico Energy Outlook.
The IEA predicted that policies aimed at liberalising E&P operations and energy markets could leave oil and coal consumption flat or lower over the next 25 years, while demand for gas, renewables and nuclear grows by 1-4% each year on average amid a doubling in the size of the national economy.
