The challenging LNG business environment of recent years has led to the postponement and cancellation of numerous liquefaction projects. As a result, some developers are taking an alternative approach, planning projects with multiple mid-scale trains of 0.5-2 mtpa, rather than basing large-scale projects on trains with 4-5.5 mtpa capacities.
Project sponsors and technology providers are claiming this approach could reduce costs, bring capacity – and therefore revenues – on stream faster, and grow overall plant capacity in increments to match market, finance and feed gas opportunities.
