The European Commission this week unveiled a broad set of proposed energy sector reforms, including a requirement that plants hoping to participate in regulated power market capacity mechanisms must comply with EU climate objectives.
The proposals released on Wednesday aim to help the bloc cut carbon emissions by 40% on 1990 levels by 2030, in part by boosting energy efficiency and phasing out subsidies for coal-fired power plants.
