Global liquefaction capacity is expected to grow by an unprecedented amount in 2017, with new plants and ramp-ups at existing projects likely adding at least 10% more LNG – roughly 32 mt – to an already well-supplied market.
The question is whether demand will grow enough to absorb the extra supply as it did this year? The 22-23 mtpa of new regas capacity scheduled to come online in 2017 will certainly help, as will solid demand from nascent importers in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan.
