Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has waded into the east coast gas supply debate by leaning on two Gladstone-based LNG exporters to convince them to alleviate shortages in the region by becoming net domestic contributors.
With the eastern seaboard forecast to see a shortfall in gas-powered electricity generation by as soon as next year, Turnbull lay down threats of a gas reservation policy and LNG exporters losing their “social licence”.
