Germany’s plans to set up a 2 GW electricity capacity reserve have come under the spotlight of the European Commission’s anti-trust watchdog.
The EC launched a competition investigation on Friday amid fears the power reserve “may distort competition and favour power plant operators over demand response operators” – raising the question of whether gas plants could loosen lignite generators’ stranglehold on capacity payments.
