Buyers of gas at Europe’s most liquid hub, the UK National Balancing Point (NBP), could face increased volatility in the coming months and possibly years, after utility Centrica decided to extend a freeze on injections at the country’s largest storage facility until at least May 2018.
Centrica Storage Limited (CSL) last summer began dialling down operations at the 4.6 Bcm Rough site – which accounts for 70% of all UK storage capacity – and eventually opted to completely halt injections until May 2017.
