The Yamal LNG project, deep in Russia’s Arctic region, has 96% of its output sold under long-term contracts and is on track to produce first LNG later this year, in line with the schedule and budget set when final investment decision was taken in 2013. This is despite its having to tackle daunting conditions, from its inhospitable, remote location and unstable permafrost terrain, to the need for LNG carriers to break through thick ice for most of the year.
