Strong renewables output has helped plug the gap left by below-average gas-fired generation in the California power mix in recent months, the US Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday.
A timely ramp-up in solar and unusually heavy rainfall offset a chunk of gas-fired power that failed to materialise on the grid due to ongoing restrictions at a key storage facility that is still recovering from an October 2015 gas leak.
