Detroit-based utility and energy services company DTE Energy has unveiled plans to add 3,500 MW of newbuild gas-fired generation capacity to its portfolio, as part of a broader carbon reduction push designed to “fundamentally transform” the company and its operations.
The sustainability initiative is targeting an 80% CO2 emissions cut by 2050 via coal-to-gas switching, investing heavily in renewables and ongoing operations of the “zero emissions” Fermi 2 nuclear power plant.
