The landslide victory of Hassan Rouhani in Iran’s presidential elections last Friday will be welcomed by the many foreign companies queueing up to participate in Iranian gas development and export – but change may not come immediately.
In what was effectively a two-horse race, moderate incumbent Rouhani secured a second term by winning 57% of the vote, averting the need for a run-off with his main challenger, hardliner Ebrahim Raisi, who managed only a 39% share.
