The maritime industry needs to do more in order to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to well below 2°C, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has said.
In a report published this week, the IEA acknowledged that the early retirement in recent years of old and inefficient ships, allied to slow steaming – the practice of running vessels at less than their maximum speed to save fuel costs – has helped boost shipping’s energy efficiency.
