Futures contracts for LNG spot cargoes and supply on major international gas hubs remain calm despite ongoing speculation over whether the diplomatic row between the world’s single largest LNG exporting nation, Qatar, and a sizeable coalition of Arab states might drive up prices.
Last Monday, seven states including Saudi Arabia and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar for alleged links to Iran and purported Islamic extremism. Some ports along the Persian Gulf have reportedly banned Qatari ships, which could make refuelling LNG vessels bound for Europe and elsewhere more difficult.
