Europe’s gas import bill jumped 35% to some EUR 20 billion (USD 23.3 billion) in Q1 2017, with imports increasing 5% during the first three months of the year compared to Q1 2016, new figures from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) have revealed.
Gas-to-power demand in Europe was the major driver behind the increase in gas imports during the first quarter of the year, with relatively cold weather also aiding gas imports.
