The UK power sector is better known for its large fleet of CCGTs, rather than an extensive array of solar and wind capacity, but as recent sessions have shown, renewables are beginning to hold an ever stronger sway over gas prices in the country.
September 2017-dated ICE gas futures on Europe’s second-most liquid hub- the UK’s National Balancing Point (NBP)- continued a more or less one-month upward trend on Monday, settling at a fresh five-month contract high at just under GBP 41.60/therm (USD 5.40/MMBtu).
