US on course to become a net gas exporter this year as Canadian imports shrink

The US sold more natural gas to foreign trade partners than it imported for four of the first six months of the year, placing it on track to becoming a net exporter for the first time in 60 years.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecast in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) that US exports are likely to outstrip imports this year and in 2018, owing to booming shale production, pipeline exports to Mexico, growing LNG export capacity and declining pipeline imports from Canada.
