Japan will need to import almost 5 mtpa more LNG than previously thought as nuclear reactors start up at a slower-than-expected pace, the Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ) said in its latest forecast looking ahead to 2018.
The IEEJ expects just 10 nuclear reactors to be operational by March 2019. It had previously forecast 17 to be running by March 2018 in its December 2016 outlook, when only three reactors were working.
