The Philippines urgently needs an LNG import strategy as upstream production wanes. But domestic politics threaten to derail plans for regasification capacity, raising the spectre of an energy crunch.
The southeast Asian nation aims to break ground on a major LNG import project in 2018, as it seeks to secure significant volumes by 2023, as production from Shell’s giant Malampaya gas condensate field in waters off Palawan is declining rapidly.
