The US Department of Energy is providing USD 36 million in federal funds to support development of next-generation carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies that will allow coal-fired power plants to retain the lion's share of the power mix.
The funding is modest, limited to USD 6-10 million per project, but the rationale for the initiative is informative.
