Record monthly LNG production in December 2017 took total supply for the year to 289.7 mt, an increase of 25.9 mt (9.8%), fresh data compiled by LNG Business Review reveals.
The outcome was broadly in line with forecasts at the beginning of the year, but expectations that the market would only balance – as it has to do – if uncommitted LNG cargoes were delivered to the liquid gas hubs in northwest Europe proved to be unfounded as demand increased in China (+12.2 mt), southern Europe (+9 mt) and South Korea (+4 mt), accounting for most of the additional output.
