When Ed Milliband called for a temporary price freeze on UK electricity and gas bills in 2013, the then leader of the opposition Labour Party was widely and loudly ridiculed. Yet, on 26 February 2018, the incumbent Conservative-led government introduced legislation into parliament for a temporary cap on domestic standard variable and default tariffs to barely a murmur.
