Cyprus is making a fresh attempt to introduce natural gas into its power generation system. If successful, it will create a new energy era for the eastern Mediterranean island, still reliant on imported liquid fuels, which keeps the price of electricity on the island at some of the highest rates among EU members.
The plan to install a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) and import LNG should put Cyprus on a clean energy course, cut emissions and costs, and enable the start of new industries based on natural gas as feedstock.
