The Zeebrugge regas terminal in Belgium, operated by Fluxys LNG, is seen as a key gateway for LNG in north-west Europe. In 2015, the company signed a 20-year contract with Yamal LNG subsidiary Yamal Trade for the transhipment of up to 8 mtpa of LNG at Zeebrugge. In 2016, a second jetty became operational, allowing the terminal to receive smaller LNG vessels of 2,000 cm, as well as larger vessels of up to 217,000 cm, and the simultaneous unloading-reloading of cargoes.
Last year, Zeebrugge started providing transhipments services and is currently undergoing another expansion with the construction of a fifth storage tank. Amid this widening of services and capacity, it saw an uptick in the number of LNG deliveries in 2018, with 33 cargoes unloaded against 17 in 2017. In the first two months of 2019, it received 8 cargoes, out of which five arrived in January. Fluxys spokesman Laurent Remy discusses with LNG Business Review the prospects for Zeebrugge LNG terminal against the backdrop of recent market developments.
