LNG supply increased by 14.27 mt (19.6%) in the second quarter of 2019, an acceleration in growth compared with 8.29 mt (11.3%) in the first quarter. In volume terms, the increase in Q2 ‘19 was the largest quarterly increase ever recorded and, in percentage terms, the largest since Q3 ‘10, when Qatar was commissioning its 7.8 mtpa mega-trains.
With demand in Asia, the main regional market, up by only 2.7 mt (5%), most of the increased output was delivered to Europe, which continues to act as the balancing market for LNG globally.
