When Extinction Rebellion protestors targeted energy majors in a series of protests last year, it once again raised the question of accountability, and to what extent the fossil fuel industry should be held responsible for climate change. This debate has many facets, ranging from responsbility for emissions, to the state of global climate policy and more recently the extent to which investors should be appraised of climate-related business risks. The latter was apparently lanced last month when Exxon Mobil was cleared by a New York court of misleading investors on climate risks, but more lawsuits may be incoming.
