For Italy’s nascent small-scale LNG sector, establishing a system of subsidies is a necessary step to promote the development of a network of planned coastal depots, Marika Venturi, president of Italian energy logistics association Assocostieri, tells LNG Business Review.
“Other countries, such as Holland and Norway, have supported the take-off of the sector through specific tax regimes and regulation. Building a new vessel, or converting it into LNG, or building a coastal depot require substantial investments,” she says.
