Growing demand in the maritime, road and railway segments, combined with a mature LNG import infrastructure and regulatory support, are driving the growth of the small-scale LNG sector in Spain. One key segment serviced by its LNG terminals is road transport, with Spain being among the leading countries in Europe in the adoption of gas-fuelled vehicles. Moreover, tax incentives have helped drive growth in the LNG bunkering sector, with operations tripling in 2019, from 60 in 2018 to 195. Grid operator Enagas is leading several small-scale initiatives, which include the shipping of LNG in containers to the Canary Islands, as well as the introduction of LNG in rail.
