With Europe now in the grip of the Covid-19 crisis and lockdowns enforced by governments across the continent to curb the spread of the virus, European small-scale LNG players tell LNG Business Review that many initiatives in this nascent business face great delays in their timelines. Upgrades to LNG terminals to offer small-scale services may take longer to carry out, as physical construction is impacted by strict social distancing measures, while permitting, seen as a non-essential activity, is also being held back. Meanwhile, the crisis faced by the automotive industry is set to slow down the manufacture of LNG-fuelled trucks, while a wounded cruise sector is likely to dampen the growth of LNG as bunker fuel, having spearheaded its adoption for many years.
