Australia’s federal government has published a long-awaited “technology investment roadmap” that evaluates 140 technologies to lower the country’s carbon emissions over the next 30 years. While solar and wind were identified as the cheapest forms of generation, gas will play “a crucial role” in grid balancing, with LNG exports highlighted as increasingly important in helping lower emissions across Asia Pacific. The plan drew cheer from industry, however one think-tank dismissed the idea that a gas-led strategy could drive economic recovery during a global supply glut.
