Spark Spread

Spark Spread

The spark spread represents the difference between the cost of fuel and the price of electric power produced. A positive spread indicates that the price of the power is higher than that of the fuel, and the spread is profitable. The spread can be calculated for any input fuel, such as natural gas, coal, or heating oil.
