Upstream

Upstream

Upstream, Midstream and Downstream are imprecisely defined terms used to separate activities along the gas and oil chain into homogenous groups. Upstream typically refers to exploration, development & production of oil & gas. Sometimes also defined to embrace Midstream, which typically covers transmission (as opposed to distribution) LNG shipping etc. Downstream typically refers to activities associated with delivery to final consumers, such as distribution systems and connections to customer premises.
