As the maritime industry is busy preparing for stricter sulphur emissions rules put into force by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) from 2020, the container shipping sector, which has grown exponentially and revolutionised the trade of goods in recent decades, is making up its mind on how to bring its fleet up to code.
Within the sector, US-based TOTE has emerged as a trailblazer, having ordered the world’s first LNG-capable containerships and helped develop bunkering infrastructure to better care for the environment and future-proof against regulatory changes. In this interview, Peter Keller, executive vice president of TOTE and chairman of the SEA\LNG coalition, explains why LNG is the right fuel for the job.
