Increasing environmental concerns over water pollution from the use of drilling fluids used in extracting gas from shale gas plays prompted the New York State Senate to approve a nine-month delay in issuing new shale gas drilling permits. Under the moratorium all gas drilling activities in New York will halt until May visual_editor011 – the measure is likely to receive final approval by the state assembly and Governor David Paterson in the next few days.
