Philippines attracts 36 companies to bid for oil and gas prospects

At least 36 companies, including GDF SUEZ, Eni and Shell have signed up to bid for 15 oil and gas exploration blocks located in the south-western Philippines, according to media reports on Wednesday. Two of the exploration sites up for grabs in the bidding round - located in the South China Sea - are being claimed by China, stoking the territorial feud which resurfaced towards the end of last year when Exxon Mobil found hydrocarbons off the coast of Vietnam in waters contested with China.
