Based in Vienna, the Central European Gas Hub (CEGH) operates Austria’s Virtual Trading Point (VTP), through which Russian gas passes into western Europe. CEGH also offers products on the pan-European trading platform PEGAS, with delivery at the Austrian and Czech VTP. Recently, however the hub has been looking to further extend its reach, agreeing a co-operation agreement this summer with Romanian TSO Transgaz to support development of a Romanian VTP hub. It also signed a similar MoU with Bulgaria’s TSO Bulgartransgaz in December, to set up a "Balkan gas hub" in the country. Gas Matters talks with Gottfried Steiner, CEGH's CEO, about recent developments in trading activity and the significance of its co-operation deals.
