Commodity trading firms need agility, as well as access to capital and markets offering good opportunities to weather the current business environment, panellists said this week at the Oil & Money conference in London.
Gunvor CEO Torbjorn Tornqvist said that it would be “very difficult” to set up a new trading house now and doing so would require long arbitrages. “We live at a time of cheap credit, but it can’t be done overnight,” he said.
