The export projects at Gladstone, Queensland have been collectively dubbed a “huge vacuum cleaner”, sucking the Australian East Coast dry and leaving local gas consumers empty-handed. These fears, though perhaps extreme, are being compounded by the expectation that LNG exports will ultimately make gas unaffordable for Australia’s East Coast industry.
